Our Favorite Sports Movies of All Time

For most of us, our love of sports filters into more areas of our lives than simply watching sports. To a lot of people that means that it changes our fashion choices, wearing our fave colors of the teams we love, for others than means playing a little bet or two on our teams — check this site out for some great odds if you do — and for the rest of us it means playing games and watching movies about the sports we adore. With this final point in mind, here are our top picks for the best sports movies of all time.

King Richard

The most modern movie in this list is King Richard, the incredible story of the sisters Venus and Serena Williams, who incredibly made the leap from growing up in Compton to winning Grand Slam titles all over the world in tennis. The story not only focuses on the sisters but also their father Richard, who struggled for many years as he tried to create champions who would be accepted in the tennis community. Will Smith is outstanding in his role as Richard.

Rocky

Sylvester Stallone was a down on his luck writer when he conceived Rocky, which was then rejected by many movie companies. Much like the character he would later portray, Stallone wouldn’t take no for an answer and persevered until his dreams were realized. Rocky is a movie like no other, and a lesson for all the fighters out there to never give up on what is important.

Raging Bull

Another outstanding boxing movie is Raging Bull, which sees Robert DeNiro take on the role of iconic boxer and troubled superstar Jake LaMotta. This black and white movie really peels the covers back on what life was like during LaMotta’s time, and how he was forced to manage a tough upbringing and the impacts it had on his family and his boxing career.

Senna

Ayrton Senna is certainly one of the world’s most famous formula 1 drivers who sadly lost his life on the track. This documentary follows the life of the inspirational Brazilian, covering the events that lead up to his tragic accident and the inspiration and indelible mark which he has left on the sport and those within it.

White Men Can’t Jump

This light hearted take on street ball in the US focuses on Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson who form an unlikely pairing to try and hustle other ballers out of money. Both actors are very much in their prime and the fast talking Snipes really steals the show with an outstanding performance. Beyond the awesome basketball which we see being played, this movie showcases the struggle which many talented sportsmen face, when they are brought up on the wrong side of the tracks.
