AWARDS: Nominees for the 2nd Annual North American Film Critics Association Awards
North American Film Critics Association announces 2022 award nominees
On Saturday, January 7, 2023, the North American Film Critics Association announced its nominee slate for the 2022 film season. Now in its second year, the group’s nominees represented 56 different films over 25 different categories. Yours truly, flying the Every Movie Has a Lesson and Film Obsessive flags, is a new member of the NAFCA. I participated in the live nominee announcement show:
The 2022 nominee slate was led by Everything Everywhere All At Once, which garnered nominations in 12 different categories ranging from Best Picture to Best Stunts. This surpasses last year’s leading nominee, Dune, which garnered 11 nominations.
Also among the most nominated films on the 2022 slate is Babylon. The feature film earned director Damien Chazelle a nomination and earned the Best Picture Nomination, part of a total of nine nominations for the film. Its diverse range of nominations even includes being on the list of Best Animal Performances. The film RRR also scored big, recording six total nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director for S.S. Rajamouli and Best International Feature.

The winners will be announced on Monday, January 9, with a live show to announce the major categories—including Best Picture—beginning at 8 p.m. EST on the group’s Twitter feed, @NAFilmCritic. Voting for the major categories will take place live among the members.
