ADVANCE GUEST CRITIC: Dumb and Dumber To

NEW GUEST CRITIC SERIES #8

As busy I get from time to time, I find that I can't see every movie under the sun, leaving my friends and colleagues to fill in the blanks for me.  As poetically as I think I wax about movies on this website as a wannabe critic, sometimes a simple sentence or two from a friend says it all.  Sometimes, it inspires me to see the movie too and get back to being my circle's go-to movie guy.  Sometimes, they save me $9 and you 800+ words of blathering.  In a new review series, I'm opening my site to friend submissions for quick-hit movie reviews.

TODAY'S CRITICS

Meet Ms. Tina Wolf and her son Kerrick.  Tina and I are both proud Puma alums of Saint Joseph's College.  She and I are enough years apart where our paths never crossed in that idyllic Rensselaer, Indiana campus, but I wished they did.  We met by coincidence through mutual friends on Facebook where someone shared one of my movie reviews her way.  We became fast friends.  She's a die-hard Indiana University fan and we are both closet comic book nerds.  Tina and I tend see eye-to-eye on movies and we share the personal interests of writing and blogging.  It's fun that mutual friends and social network conversations can create new friendships.  Tina's a gem.  She and my wife kibitz on baby stuff without ever having met in person.  It's a beautiful thing.

The point man on this advance "Guest Critic" review is her oldest son, Kerrick.  He and his family reside in Bloomington, Indiana.  He is 12-going-on-30, so you can imagine the kind of pre-teen handful he fashions himself to be for my friend Tina.  He is too smart for his own good, but he backs it up.  Kerrick is a band geek, an honor student, and probably types better than both Tina and I combined.   I like his style.

In bouncing around the internet as the movie guy, I frequently encounter chances to acquire advance screening passes for upcoming films through internet sites and contests.  When they are available in cities where I have friends, I give them away as a "Movie Ticket Santa" of sorts to share the love of movies.  I always get tickets in Indianapolis, being the big city, but I never get stuff for Bloomington.  As luck would have it, I ran into a chance to see "Dumb and Dumber To" in Bloomington.  I knew exactly who to get a hold of.

THEIR REVIEW

Kerrick: “I thought 'Dumb and Dumber To' was great, it was hilarious and I want to see it again.”

Tina:  "I went in to 'Dumb and Dumber To' with low expectations.  I loved the first movie and didn’t think that a second one could be done as well.  I am happy to say that I was proven wrong. This sequel is just as funny as the first one.  Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey may be older, but they definitely have not lost their comedy edge.  They slipped back into these roles effortlessly. While this is not necessarily a movie you need to see in the theater, it is definitely worth a Redbox rental went it comes out.

CONCLUSION

I'd like to thank Tina and Kerrick fun and energetic take. Thanks for letting me play along and thanks for thinking of me with this review!  I'm glad the tickets worked out and I hope I can send a few more your way in the future.  Go, IU!

Let's keep this going.  Friends, if you see a movie that I don't see and want to be featured on my website (and get a fun fake biography written about you), hit up my website's Facebook page and you can be my next GUEST CRITIC!
